Speaking to President Emmanuel Macron and diplomats at the \u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace after an hour of talks, the pontiff cautioned against \u201closing our humanity amid a paradise of machines.\u201d He also reaffirmed Vatican opposition to nuclear weapons and called the nuclear-deterrence doctrine \u201cmistaken,\u201d saying it was fueling a new arms race amid wars in Europe and the Middle East.<\/p>\n
