President Donald Trump will announce Wednesday that South Korea is channeling <strong>$200 billion<\/strong> into U.S. energy projects \u2014 including about <strong>$54 billion<\/strong> for the long-stalled <strong>Alaska LNG<\/strong> venture \u2014 a White House official told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The package is the first major draw on South Korea\u2019s broader <strong>$350 billion<\/strong> strategic investment pledge from last year\u2019s trade deal ($150B shipbuilding + $200B other sectors). White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers framed it as unleashing American energy, unlocking Alaska, and juicing a \u201cnuclear energy renaissance.\u201d Also on the card: <strong>eight large-scale nuclear plants<\/strong> and a <strong>6-gigawatt<\/strong> gas-fired power facility in Encinal, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska LNG\u2019s pitch: an <strong>807-mile<\/strong> pipeline from the North Slope to a southern liquefaction terminal \u2014 designed for about <strong>3.9 billion cubic feet<\/strong> of gas per day and up to <strong>20 million metric tons<\/strong> of LNG a year. Alaska\u2019s Mike Dunleavy, Sen. Dan Sullivan, and Rep. Nick Begich are expected at the Oval Office rollout \u2014 Sullivan is in a tough Senate race against Democrat Mary Peltola.<\/p>\n<p>Caveat stamped in Seoul ink: South Korea has previously said projects must clear <strong>commercial viability<\/strong> reviews. Opposition lawmaker Kim Sung-won told Reuters any huge public burden needs thorough commercial verification first.
