The company announced tighter <strong>macOS Full Disk Access (FDA)<\/strong> controls so users who grant this extraordinary permission do so only with very explicit action, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/10\/02\/apple-says-its-tightening-macos-full-disk-access-controls-due-to-new-risks-from-ai-agents\/\">TechCrunch<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/security\/2026\/10\/apple-changes-full-disk-access-permissions-to-curb-abuse-from-ai-agents\/\">Ars Technica<\/a> reported Oct. 2, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>FDA was built for backups. AI agents raised new risks. Apple said some developers use FDA in ways that expose files, mail, messages, and browsing history without full user understanding \u2014 and can compromise the privacy of people you message. A TechCrunch correction clarified the change is about <strong>informed consent<\/strong>, not a hard new \u201climit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The timing: days after Inc.\u2019s Jason Aten said Meta\u2019s <strong>Muse<\/strong> Mac app referenced private Messages content he said he never permitted; Meta disputed that account. Meta CTO David Singleton said Messages integration is opt-in, and Muse only reads Messages if macOS FDA is granted <em>and<\/em> the Muse Messages connector is enabled. Apple\u2019s developer blog did not name Meta or Muse.<\/p>\n<p>Context still hanging over the beat: a Wired\/ChatGPT Mac flaw, a Wardle report on a Muse control issue, and Amazon blocking Muse.
