Late Thursday on Truth Social, President Donald Trump said the United States \u201cwill not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections\u201d on <strong>November 3<\/strong>, while claiming Washington is having \u201cproductive discussions\u201d with Tehran, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/10\/9\/trump-says-us-will-not-strike-iran-before-midterm-elections\">Al Jazeera<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/iran-war-trump-us-elections-saudi-arabia-yemen-houthis\/\">CBS News<\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also said the blockade stays on and bragged that <strong>22 million barrels<\/strong> moved through the Strait of Hormuz the night before \u2014 \u201cwith not one barrel coming from, or going to, Iran,\u201d per CBS. Speculators had been pricing a pre-midterm strike wave; Thursday\u2019s oil jump partly reflected that fear. After the post, the fear trade cooled.<\/p>\n<p>Brent, which CBS says had been near <strong>$105<\/strong> before the Truth Social blast, slipped to around <strong>$103<\/strong>. Into Friday morning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/09\/saudi-us-iran-war-trump-hormuz.html\">CNBC<\/a> had front-month Brent about <strong>1.3% lower at $102.94<\/strong> and WTI about <strong>1% lower at $90.51<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister <strong>Abbas Araghchi<\/strong> said Tehran is reviewing the U.S. response to its seven-day Hormuz reopening plan and will answer in the \u201cnext few days,\u201d with talks continuing through mediators, Al Jazeera and CNBC note. The Axios-era chatter about Pentagon prep options still hangs in the background \u2014 but Trump\u2019s midterms pledge is the new headline.<\/p>\n<p>Regional heat did not vanish overnight. Iran-backed Houthis claimed strikes on Riyadh\u2019s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday that killed three, including Saudia Capt. <strong>Hamoud Ali Alkalthami<\/strong>, CBS and CNBC report.
