Russian President Vladimir Putin called Elon Musk \u201ca genius, a real genius\u201d on Wednesday and said the two sides are in \u201cclose\u201d contact about satellite technology, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c63djl148n3eo\">BBC<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Putin made the remarks at the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow while touting <strong>Rassvet<\/strong>, Russia&#8217;s own satellite internet project. \u201cWe are in close contact with our American partners, including Mr. Musk,\u201d he said, adding that the contact keeps Rassvet and Starlink satellites from interfering with each other in orbit. SpaceX did not respond to the BBC&#8217;s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The scoreboard isn&#8217;t close. Starlink says it has launched roughly <strong>13,000<\/strong> satellites; online trackers show only <strong>a couple of dozen<\/strong> Rassvet satellites in orbit. Russia&#8217;s embassy in South Africa called Rassvet \u201cRussia&#8217;s Starlink alternative\u201d and said it marks only the country&#8217;s first steps.<\/p>\n<p>The timing stings.
