Next target: 500, when he\u2019ll be nearly 90"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KEEP UP, KIDS! <strong>David Carbert<\/strong>, 87, finished his <strong>400th Parkrun<\/strong> on Saturday at the <strong>Humber Bridge Country Park<\/strong> event, and he thinks the running may have added years to his life, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cmy832693309o\">BBC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Carbert showed up for the first time <strong>10 years ago, aged 77<\/strong>, full of trepidation. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to make a fool of myself, but everyone welcomed me,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know it\u2019s one big happy family here.\u201d His reason for starting: \u201cReally, I didn\u2019t want to sit around at home vegetating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The numbers: his personal best of <strong>28 minutes 13 seconds<\/strong> came at age <strong>80<\/strong>. These days he covers the 5km (3.1-mile) course in around <strong>38 minutes<\/strong>. He stretches at home before every run and goes out in all weathers unless there\u2019s deep snow or ice. And he\u2019s not done; he\u2019s aiming for <strong>500 Parkruns<\/strong>, when he\u2019ll be nearly 90.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love him &#8211; he is an inspiration,\u201d said event director <strong>Helen Penn<\/strong>. \u201cI think he\u2019s only just getting going.\u201d Neighbour and running mate <strong>Tony Nicholson<\/strong> called him a role model, with one complaint: \u201cWe have a sprint at the end and he always wins.
