Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least seven people Thursday, Ukrainian officials said, as Kyiv claimed a drone strike that set fire to natural gas infrastructure deep in Russia’s Arctic Yamal-Nenets region — some 2,800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces called it the deepest strike of the full-scale war, saying they hit plants near Novy Urengoy and Purovsky. A Kremlin envoy said it was the first such hit on the Arctic part of the region. Four died in Mykolaiv overnight and three in a Sumy shopping-center drone strike, Ukrainian authorities said.
Separately, Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said NATO military aviation deployed briefly in Polish airspace overnight in a preventive response as Russian jet-powered drones struck western Ukraine — 149 drones launched, 128 downed, Ukraine’s air force said.
