Samsung has started recruiting Galaxy Watch users for a hypertension-focused study through the Samsung Health app, collecting sensor data from both the watch and a connected phone with the stated goal of building future health features, Gadgets & Wearables reported on September 7.
Compatible Galaxy Watches already support manual blood-pressure checks and a Blood Pressure Trend feature that estimates morning pressure from overnight data. The new study goes further by gathering longer-running wearable and phone signals specifically around hypertension research — the same research path Google took with Pixel Watch users before expanding Blood Pressure Trends on Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices, the outlet noted. Apple has also shipped hypertension-style pattern notifications that look at cardiovascular trends over time rather than turning the watch into a cuff replacement.
Eligible users may see the study invitation under Promotions in Samsung Health. The study itself does not change watch behavior today, but it signals where Samsung’s cardiovascular roadmap is headed next alongside Galaxy Watch9 / Ultra heart-health scoring work highlighted in recent Samsung briefings.
