A VILLAGE AID CENTRE, FLATTENED! At least nine 3,000kg aerial bombs hit the village of Komyshuvakha in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region on Monday, regional head Mykhailo Semikin said, according to the BBC.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after the first strike on the local school, “used for humanitarian needs,” there was a second attack on the place where people were sheltering. In his late-night address he said 26 people were now known to have died. Ukraine’s emergency service earlier said the dead included two rescuers and four police officers.
“The Russians could not have been unaware that the local residents who remained in Komyshuvakha received humanitarian aid there every week,” Zelensky said. “This is yet another proof that Russia does not want any de-escalation.”
Semikin called it a “terrible tragedy” and said “people are still under the rubble.” Rescuers had to halt their work several times because of Russian drone attacks in the area. The Russian military has not publicly commented.
A day of mourning has been declared across the Zaporizhzhia region for Tuesday.
