Google is handing the remote to your AI agent. On Sept. 16, Google opened early access to Home MCP — a Model Context Protocol server that lets third-party AI agents securely read and control devices and event history in the Google Home ecosystem, TechCrunch and The Verge reported.
Compatible agents include Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT, and Google Antigravity. Once connected, you can ask natural-language questions across Nest cameras and doorbells, Nest thermostats, and Matter “Works with Google Home” gear like bulbs — cross-camera “what did the kids do after school,” laundry-cycle counts from device history, speaker voice pings when a task finishes, and custom dashboards built in plain English.
Catch: early access is rolling out over the coming weeks to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers in the U.S. only — $20/month or $200/year. Setup means creating a Google Cloud project, wiring Home MCP, and OAuth-granting your agent. Google has not said when (or if) cheaper tiers or other countries get it.
