Thirty-four missing kids and teens — ages 7 to 18 when reported — were found in a three-day Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation run from a Garden City command center, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced, Greater Long Island reported Oct. 3, 2026 (also framed by Newsday / the governor’s office).

The haul: Nassau 18, Suffolk 12, Queens 4. More than 100 professionals from nearly 40 law enforcement, prosecutor, social-service, and advocacy agencies worked the cases — including trafficking. Another 31 local cases remain open on Long Island. It is the fourth New York operation of its kind; earlier sweeps in Erie County, the Capital Region, and Westchester County located 168 missing children and teens.

“Every missing child deserves our full attention, and every family deserves answers,” Hochul said. National Child Protection Task Force CEO Kevin Branzetti stressed that finding is only the first step: listen to why they left, what they experienced, and what help they need next.
