Google just crashed back into the frontier fight. Alphabet released Gemini 4 Argon worldwide Tuesday for developers and enterprises — its first major frontier drop since Gemini 3 in late 2025 — and claims it can go toe-to-toe with OpenAI and Anthropic, The Verge and Google’s own blog reported.
Argon is pitched for hard multi-step work in coding, finance, legal, cybersecurity, and science. Google says it ranks #1 on the Vals Index across those sectors, and that teams using it in Antigravity bumped agentic code submissions by more than 35% while cutting rollbacks by nearly a third.
The sticker shock is the good kind: intro API pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output (cached input 95% off), about a fifth the per-token cost of GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Fable 5, per The Verge. Those rates double after Nov. 30, 2026.
Who gets it today: developers via the Gemini API in AI Studio; enterprises on Gemini for business and Antigravity; Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search (Antigravity coding for Ultra). Free and Plus access? Not clear yet.
Context: Meta shipped Muse Wonder Monday. Argon lands one day later. The frontier just got a three-horse race again.
