The sirens came late. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that Ukraine got no early warning from its partners before five Russian ballistic missiles slammed civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, the Associated Press and Kyiv Independent reported.

The barrage hit shortly after 10 p.m. local time Oct. 12. Kyiv Independent journalists on the ground heard powerful blasts in the capital before air raid sirens and phone alerts. Zelenskyy called the strike “particularly vile” and stressed that partner intel on ballistic launches “helps save lives.”

Ukraine’s Air Force said radar caught the missiles mid-attack but received no launch heads-up from Russian territory. Speculation flared after reports that Washington had threatened to pause intel sharing unless Kyiv stopped hitting Russian energy sites — but Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said cooperation with the U.S. was still ongoing.

A senior Ukrainian official, speaking anonymously to AP, called the miss a “failure” — weather or detection/comms, not a deliberate cut. Zelenskyy adviser Sergey Beskrestnov warned against jumping to conclusions: partner services have missed S-400 launches before.

Meanwhile Trump keeps insisting an “energy ceasefire” exists “because I said they agreed.” The missiles didn’t get the memo.
