Russia resumed air attacks on Kyiv early Tuesday, pounding the Ukrainian capital with drones and ballistic missiles hours after U.S. peace negotiators left the city, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Three people were killed and the wounded count reached 19 by midday, authorities said.

Fires broke out across several districts. Officials reported damage to at least 14 high-rise buildings plus a dorm, a school, a clinic, warehouses, and other sites. A Russian drone also partially destroyed a Ukrainian TV channel building in Kyiv, injuring five, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said.

Moscow and Kyiv had halted strikes on each other’s capitals for three days so U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff could hold talks. Russia’s state news agency TASS said the pause expired Monday evening local time. Ukraine’s air force said it downed nearly all cruise missiles and two ballistic missiles; Zelenskiy called the wave a complex attack aimed at maximum harm and said ballistic interceptors remain critically scarce.

Eight other regions were hit as well, Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said, including drone strikes on passenger trains that forced evacuations and left casualties. In Russia and annexed Crimea, Ukrainian long-range strikes also caused deaths and damage, local officials said — both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians.
